Until the reboot of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and it's sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider - I frankly did not know all that much about Lara herself. I mean I had seen the movies, known about the earlier games, but something about Tomb Raider got my interest. It is Lara before she's become the archaeologist extraordinaire - it is more about being able to connect to the character than it is about seeing her in a fully along with her abilities as well as being confident in those abilities too. The Lara in Tomb Raider is aboard a research vessel called the Endurance - ominous name given the history of a real world vessel by that name which was lost in an expedition to Antarctica. This history aside - she experiences multiple trials starting with the very moment she lands on a mysterious island which turns out to be the one she's looking for yet nothing about it is welcoming - in fact it is a struggle for survival against both natural forces and supernatural forces at work there.
Her mentor Conrad Roth is one of several survivors besides her, her best friend Sam, several other expedition members, and of course the one person in the group that put me off fairly early on was Whitman though it was invariably clear that the man's motives were often selfish.
In the long term - the island's experiences for her and the others would have lasting repercussions for a long time after.
Rise of the Tomb Raider in turn sees her following the quest that was left undone by her father and that too felt connecting for me given my own turbulent history with my father.
A further story after RotTR is set in Croft Manor where Lara faces the potential loss of her late parents' estate by way of her uncle - a brother to her late mother. Blood Ties is the story's name within the post-game events so in her exploration of her parents' history she comes to learn a great deal about them as well as about herself in relation to them.
Amelia Croft is shown to have been an artist - a painter of exceptional skills who was also an intellectual foil for her husband Richard - before and after they were married. Of course you read about the ups and downs of their courtship as well as about their relationship to their eventual daughter.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
The only canonical fact that seems set following the multiple endings Deus Ex: Human Revolution is that the Arctic Panchaea installation was destroyed following Adam Jensen's journey into the installation's core. Thereafter Adam's fate was unknown to many except those that found him in the wreckage and he himself admits missing time though this is not his first experience with missing time or at least that's one impression one comes away with following the Director's Cut of DE: HR. Further a side quest in DE: MD named Mystery Augs deepens the questions of Adam's fate as David Sarif's investigation into Facility 451 uncovers that Jensen's cur
Quantum Break
Remedy Entertainment returns with the multimedia story of Quantum Break. A man named Jack Joyce goes back to his home city of Riverport at the behest of childhood friend Paul Serene as he wants Jack to witness firsthand a project that's been a major time element in Paul's life in the years since Jack has been away. Meanwhile a corporation known as Monarch Solutions has become a very influential company globally and locally as Riverport's become a thriving location once again because of the company's financial influence. However not everyone in Riverport - least of all the university is entirely happy with the company's designs for 'redevel
Alan Wake
Alan Wake actually drew me into episodic games plus it also had a blend of original and licensed music. The original tracks were (are) by composer Petri Alanko who also made the instrumental soundtrack for the Alan Wake: American Nightmare follow-up to the Alan Wake (Season 1). It had as I found out been inspired by many things including Twin Peaks, and the similarities became more profound once I saw the television series Twin Peaks. There's also a live action miniseries called Bright Falls which is like a prequel to the game. Some licensed music in Alan Wake and Alan Wake: American Nightmare is also by a favorite band of mine called Poe
Soundtracks - Original and Licensed
Music is as much a character to a medium as the characters themselves. Case in point the episodic series called Life is Strange contains both original music and licensed music which are woven into the episodes for specific scenes so the listeners can readily connect them even if hearing them outside the episodes. It is a very different arrangement from my last experience with DONTNOD - the company that makes Life is Strange. My last experience with them was in fact my first and rather unique for the main character was female of mix heritage in a futuristic setting - I speak of Nilin - a Memory Hunter turned Errorist in Remember Me. Nilin'
